Mapinfo 9 documentation:

Evaluation download

  • For use on your own computer, you can download a 30-day evaluation of Mapinfo Professional from http://mapinfo.com/location/integration - choose "products & services" -> "demos & evaluations" -> "Desktop applications" -> "MapInfo Professional®" -> "Download Evaluation Version".
  • Additional software utilities and examples, including one that exports Mapinfo maps to Google Earth, are available here.

Tutorials and data

Tutorial introductions and data for Mapinfo are available:

This provides data files in the following folders:

Training_Data\
Training_Data\Australia
Training_Data\Australia\Brisbane
Training_Data\Australia\Melbourne
Training_Data\Canada
Training_Data\Canada\Toronto
Training_Data\Exercise_Data
Training_Data\Mexico
Training_Data\UK
Training_Data\UK\Windsor
Training_Data\US
Training_Data\US\DC
Training_Data\US\Illinois
Training_Data\Workspaces
Training_Data\World

These are not the same files as those mentioned in the Mapinfo 7.0 tutorial, but you should be able to find enough data to complete most of the exercises. Find the folder Training_Data on your desktop in the "Open" dialogue and go to the appropriately named folder. For example, "\MapInfo\data\tut_data\tut_usa" is mentioned as the location of the "States" table in the tutorial; in the current dataset, go to "Training_Data\US" to find "states". Find other files, such as "US_CUST.DBF" in the "Exercise_Data" folder. The geocoding exercise (in which you place arrows at addresses on a Washington DC street map using "Training_Data\US\DC\DCWASHS.TAB") requires a file named "Registr.dbf" which does not exist; you can use "Training_Data\Exercise_Data\Dc_cust.dbf" instead.

  • I have rearranged the files from the Mapinfo 9 training data to match the file paths described in the online tutorial for Mapinfo 7, in a ZIP file available at:
